Destination Wedding Signage and Day-Of Stationery

Everyone knows that destination weddings require extra attention to detail and planning. In addition to the usual wedding stationery, you need to consider the logistics of transporting and setting up signage and day-of stationery in a different location. Here are some tips for creating beautiful and functional signage and stationery for destination weddings!

Tip 1. Use fabric banners for signage

One of the best ways to create impactful and versatile signage for a destination wedding is to use fabric banners. These can be made in advance and easily transported to the wedding location, and can be hung from a variety of locations, such as archways, trees, or tables. Fabric banners also have a romantic and rustic look that works well for many destination weddings.

For my own destination wedding, I prepared all the signage with fabric and hung them around the venue.

Tip 2. Be prepared and have spares or emergency supplies

Plenty of times I’ve had emergency requests for last minute calligraphy place cards (sometimes a mere day or two before!), or even last minute signage. This isn’t going to work if it’s a destination wedding! When you are having a destination wedding, it's important to have backup plans in case of unexpected issues and you’re far away from your home city. Make sure to bring spare supplies such as pens, ink, and paper, as well as extra materials for signage in case of damage or loss during transport. It's also a good idea to have a small emergency kit in case you need to make last-minute adjustments.

For this reason, here is what I would put in a small emergency stationery pack to take with you at a minimum:

  • Blank place cards

  • A slightly nicer pen (e.g. a Gold gel pen if your other place cards have gold calligraphy or writing - while it won’t be consistent, at least they won’t stand out like a sore thumb!)

  • Black/white sharpie depending on your signage

  • A few spares of your other stationery items e.g. spare menus, spare ceremony cards, spare wax seals etc

Tip 3. Consider options for day-of stationery

In addition to signage, there are several types of day-of stationery that can enhance the wedding experience for guests. Place cards, menus, and table numbers are all important pieces that can add a personal touch to the wedding decor. For a destination wedding, consider using materials that are easy to transport, such as paper or cardstock, and that can be assembled quickly on site. Options such as acrylic coasters, wooden place cards won’t work as well unless you have the option of confirming your guest list very far in advance, so you can mail it to your destination. If you are 100% set on stationery which is difficult to transport, consider options local to your wedding destination and see if they can deliver them to you once you arrive in the area.

Tip 4. Choose designs that fit the destination

Finally, it's important to choose designs that fit the location and theme of the wedding. For example, if the wedding is taking place on a beach, consider using designs that incorporate seashells or other beachy elements. If the wedding is in a city, choose designs that reflect the urban setting. By tailoring your designs to the location, you can create a cohesive and memorable wedding experience for everyone involved.

In summary, wedding signage and day-of stationery are essential elements of any destination wedding. By using fabric banners, being prepared with backup supplies, considering options for day-of stationery, and choosing designs that fit the destination, you can create beautiful and functional decor that enhances the overall wedding experience for everyone involved!
